At Faber Group, our purpose is to carry impact. We want to create a better world through our circular business model facilitated by continuously improving our sustainable value chain.

Faber Group Sustainability Report

Sustainability is embedded in the core of our circular load carrier pooling business and in our hearts! With the Faber Group Sustainability Report, we now make our efforts and ambitions tangible and visible. The report outlines our Faber Group sustainability strategy and Faber Development Goals. It also includes the result of a baseline measurement of our footprint as Faber Group as a whole, per division and per type of activity. We used this to set tangible KPI’s to eventually become a ‘net-zero’ company by 2045.

Our sustainability approach covers the full scope of care for people, planet and society – which has been recognized with a Platinum Ecovadis rating. This we consider the basis (Plateau) of our sustainability ambitions.

However, we want to do more where we can have most impact (Peak). We have assessed the footprint of our business and found that approximately 85% origins from our (purchased) load carriers and transportation.

Faber Development Goals

Based on this, we have selected the three most relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals  to which we want to contribute and made them our Faber Development Goals. We developed a strategy with concrete actions and targets to deliver on:

By sustainable sourcing of the raw materials of our load carriers, maximizing the usage of our circular load carriers by our customers and partners, maximizing the lifespan of our load carriers over time and maximizing high-value processing at the end of their end-of-life stage.

By minimizing the carbon emissions for our customers and partners by using our load carriers and minimizing the CO2-emissions of our own logistic operations and at our depots. We strive to reduce our scope 3 footprint per trip by 30% in 2030.

Being part of supply chains, we realize our goals in cooperation with our customers, retailers and business partners such as load carrier manufacturers, logistics service providers and depots.

This is visually summarized in the picture on the right, with 7 impact areas. Our main impact (1,2) is contributing to sustainable value chains of our customer through our circular business model, facilitated by improving our own sustainable value chain (3-7).

Some concrete examples of sustainability initiatives in our divisions

We have distributed the overall sustainability goals over the divisions of Faber Group: IPP, PRS, PAKi, vPOOL and SATIM. Each division has created its own sustainability plan to contribute with concrete projects and actions to the overall group target with focus on the impact areas mentioned before. We also established a Sustainability Community with a lead in each division to boost sustainability initiatives, to align and share best practices with the other divisions and our group Sustainability management.

IPP – first company with 2 star rating in the European Lean & Green program

Lean & Green is the leading European program for sustainable logistics and stimulates organizations to reduce their environmental footprint by optimizing their logistics organization – driving cost savings and efficiency at the same time. Reducing kilometres and increasing load size are core principles of the IPP business model – it is in our DNA. By enrolling into Lean & Green, IPP can now better pinpoint its performance today and challenge how can to improve it. For example. IPP identified inefficient relocations and inefficient loading patterns and focuses on our collections by balancing the impact of loss of pallets against environmental impact of transport. The two star European Lean & Green recognition is a true motivator to achieve more - next steps for IPP will investigate the viability of alternative fuels, both in a physical capacity and in a financially sustainable manner

PAKi – preventing empty runs

PAKi Logistics is currently making great strides in preventing ‘empty runs’ all over Europe. An especially good example can be found in France. Working closely together with its partners, PAKi is making sure that transports returning from deliveries in the south of France, can take back PAKi’s pallets on their way back to Brittany in the West of France. In this way, PAKi is making sure that transport capacity is optimally used. With a volume of approximately 135 truckloads on this specific flow a considerable CO2-emission saving is achieved by using the load capacity which would otherwise have been empty runs.

Working together with sustainable stakeholders

We work together with stakeholders throughout the supply chain to realize our sustainability ambitions, from customers and retailers to suppliers who manufacture our load carriers, hauliers and depots. As we want to ensure to work with partners who have sustainability as focus too we have policies in place to safeguard this, for example in our Suppliers Code of Conduct.

Ecovadis Platinum rating

Proof of our sustainability efforts is also reflected in the Ecovadis Platinum rating for Faber Group and its divisions – the highest sustainability ranking of Ecovadis, a leading provider of business sustainability ratings, with a network of more than 75,000 rated companies.

Ecovadis assesses and rates the sustainability efforts of companies worldwide on 21 criteria related to environment, labour & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement – considering policies, actions and reporting. With a score of 81 out of 100, Faber Group and its divisions are proudly part of the top 1% tier companies recognized with Platinum Ecovadis rating.
