World Environment Day is an opportunity to look beyond sustainability ambitions and focus on what creates measurable environmental impact in practice. For supply chains, this means looking at the systems, processes and decisions that influence how resources are used, how materials remain in circulation and how environmental performance improves over time. At FABER, circular pooling is designed around these principles.
Why environmental impact is about more than recycling
Reducing environmental impact is often associated with recycling, but for many supply chains the biggest opportunity lies higher up the circularity ladder: keeping products and materials in use for longer.
Reusable load carriers play an important role in this process. By continuously collecting, inspecting, repairing and redistributing pallets and other load carriers, valuable resources remain in circulation across multiple supply chain cycles.
This reduces the need for new materials while supporting more efficient logistics operations.
Building circular supply chains through responsible sourcing
Circularity starts long before a load carrier enters the supply chain.
Responsible sourcing helps ensure that materials originate from well-managed and certified sources. In 2025, nearly 100% of newly sourced wood used for FABER load carriers was FSC or PEFC certified, supporting responsible forest management practices.
Combined with the long service life of reusable load carriers, responsible sourcing contributes to a more sustainable supply chain model.
Continuous improvement through data and operations
Environmental progress does not happen through a single initiative.
It requires ongoing improvements across sourcing, transport, repair activities, asset utilisation and energy consumption.
In 2025, 75% of the electricity used across FABER operations came from renewable sources. At the same time, continued optimisation of transport flows and pooling networks helps improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact per load carrier delivered.
As Koen Sluys, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, explains:
"Building a circular system is not a one-time achievement, but a continuous improvement process. By sourcing certified materials, extending the reuse of our load carriers, and continuously optimizing our transport network, we are working to reduce environmental impact per load-carrier delivered, year after year."
Looking ahead
World Environment Day serves as a reminder that sustainability is not a one-time achievement. It is an ongoing process of measuring, improving and building more resilient supply chains.
Through responsible sourcing, reusable load carriers and circular pooling systems, FABER continues to support customers in reducing environmental impact while creating more efficient and sustainable supply chains.
